How to Use the Practice Area Well

The value of the range depends on how you use the hour before your round. A useful pattern: start on the putting green to get a feel for pace, move to the chipping area for a handful of short shots, then work up through the bag on the range rather than opening with a driver. Grass and matt bays are both available, which matters more than it sounds — matts are forgiving in wet weather, grass gives you the true strike feedback you'll get on the course.

Access runs from sunrise to sunset, so the practical constraint is light rather than opening hours. In midsummer that gives you a long early window before the heat; in winter it means an early tee time and a warm-up that runs close together, and it's worth collecting coffee from the Halfway House, open from 07:30, on your way through. Equipment hire and range needs can be sorted at the Pro-Shop, where guests staying at Winelands Golf Lodges receive discounted rates.

    Coaching, and Who It's For

PGA Professionals are based at the practice facilities and take sessions on the range, which puts structured coaching within reach of a normal holiday itinerary rather than making it a separate excursion. Sessions are tailored to the player, so the same coaching team works with first-timers learning grip and set-up and with single-figure golfers chasing a specific fault. Travelling couples often use this well: one partner books a lesson while the other takes a treatment from the CSpa menu, and they meet for lunch.

If coaching is part of why you're coming, mention it when you enquire about your dates rather than on arrival — coaches' diaries and tee sheets both tighten over weekends and peak season. Our reservations team can arrange lessons alongside your accommodation.

    Practising Where You're Staying

Practice becomes a habit rather than an event when you are living on the estate. Guests at Winelands Golf Lodges reach the practice facilities and the first tee on foot, which makes a short evening putting session or a pre-breakfast bucket of balls realistic in a way that a drive across town never is. The championship course itself is the payoff — an 18-hole Peter Matkovich design, ranked #31 in South Africa's Top 100 and host to more than 35 tournaments.

For groups, this proximity is what makes multi-day golf trips work. Several four-balls book across the three- and four-bedroom lodges, warm up together, play consecutive mornings, and spend the afternoons at the pool or over a wine tasting at Kleine Zalze, which is included with every stay. Booking direct through this site also saves 5% against third-party platforms — you can check availability and book direct here.

Stay & Play at Winelands Golf Lodges

Guests staying at Winelands Golf Lodges enjoy convenient access to the practice facilities as part of the broader estate experience. Located within easy reach of the lodges, you can integrate practice sessions seamlessly into your daily routine.

Move effortlessly between your accommodation, practice facilities, and the championship course.
