    Why Winter Suits the Winelands

Stellenbosch in winter is a quieter, greener version of itself. The vineyards are bare and the mountains are often wrapped in cloud, but the golf course stays playable and the valley empties out — which is the point. Tee sheets loosen, restaurant tables open up, and the estate feels less like a busy resort and more like a private address. It is the season that rewards travellers who prefer a slower pace over peak-summer energy.

Because the lodges are fully self-catering, winter days shape themselves around the lodge. Mornings start with breakfast included in the offer, afternoons go to either the course or a treatment, and evenings settle into an open-plan living area, a bottle of Stellenbosch red and the built-in braai on the covered patio. The lodge layouts and inclusions are set out here if you're weighing up one bedroom against three.

    Choosing Golf or the Spa

The offer gives each guest a round of golf or a spa voucher for every night of the stay, so a two-night booking for two people means four choices to make — and they don't have to match. One of you can play the Peter Matkovich-designed championship course while the other books a hot stone massage or a facial; the next day you can swap. Mixed-interest couples and friend groups tend to use the flexibility rather than committing to one side.

If you're leaning towards golf, arrive with time to warm up: the driving range, chipping area and putting green sit within easy reach of the lodges, and the Halfway House opens at 07:30 for coffee before an early tee time. If you're leaning towards the spa, look through the CSpa treatment menu before you enquire and mention your preferred treatments in the form — winter slots are limited and pre-booking them alongside the accommodation avoids disappointment.

What Else Fills a Winter Stay

Two nights is enough for a full weekend if you plan it lightly. Your stay includes a complimentary wine tasting at Kleine Zalze on the estate, which is a natural first stop after check-in from 15:00. Dinner can stay on the estate at any of the three walking-distance restaurants — wood-fired cooking at De Kombuis, something more casual at Lievens, or drinks on the Sunset Terrace. Stellenbosch town centre is about 3 km away for a morning of galleries, coffee and bookshops when the weather turns, and Cape Town International Airport is roughly 33 km away.

For longer stays, the surrounding valleys hold more than 200 wine estates, and the Jonkershoek and Simonsberg trails are at their best in the cooler months. Our Winelands experience guide covers how guests usually put a few days together.

    Confirming Your Winter Rate

The rate applies to stays between 1 May – 31 August 2026, based on two adults sharing and a minimum of two nights, and is subject to availability. Rather than a live calendar, this page uses an enquiry form so our reservations team can match your dates to the right lodge and confirm a final quote — usually within 24 hours. Include your preferred lodge size, guest numbers and whether each guest wants golf or spa, and you'll get back a single itemised quote. If you'd prefer to talk it through, reservations are on +27 (0)21 880 6900 or reachable via our contact page.
